Cold brew essentially reduces the acidity content because it doesn't dissolve certain compounds that hot water would dissolve. The long steep or drip time, also creates a concentrated flavour that is really smooth.
Our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is a great choice for cold brew, as it will give you those fruity berry notes which are really refreshing as a cold drink. If you like to add a bit of milk to your coffee, then we'd recommend one of our more chocolatey nutty coffees, like the Urbanite blend or the Intrepid blend.
At the end of the day, most coffees work well as cold brew, it just depends again on your personal taste preferences.
Here's a few tips from the team:
- Use ambient temperature water, not chilled. This will give you slightly more extraction and flavour.
- Use a 1:6 to 1:10 coffee water ratio when steeping. You can then add water / ice to the concentrate to taste.
- Try steeping at ambient temperature, not in the fridge. That helps get better flavour and extraction. You can then refrigerate or ice it once you finish the steeping.
- Steep for at least 16 hours, and up to 24 hours
